Networking Equipment (All Other) #6051

Last Updated on February 19, 2026 by

Introduction

This page will guide you on how to handle different types of networking equipment. How to value check and where to put if the item is below the price limit. This page will focus on networking equipment that has a metal case or frame. If you have networking equipment that has a plastic case, refer to Networking Equipment (Plastic Case) #6049

All networking items will need to be value checked; however, there are some items that, based on experience, will be automatically scrapped. See below for scrap information.

Item Examples

Network Switch

Router

Network Hub

Print Server

PBX

Access Point

KVM Switch

How to Process

Check the machine and remove asset tags

Storage media

  • Do not remove any internal storage from networking equipment, unless it’s scrap. If you suspect that the item may have storage, leave a note on the value check label. The storage may be required to correctly test the item.
  • Remove the hot swap drive.

Check the Scrap list

Value Check

  • Scrap Rules: The base scrap limit is $30; however, the scrap limit for some items varies based on size and salability. All rack-mountable network equipment(Any dimensions over 17″ without rack ears)  must sell with shipping for over $100; otherwise, the item will be scrapped
  • Cisco products use PID VID for value checks.
  • Make sure the listing P/N exactly matches the item on hand. eBay will often ignore dashes or backslashes; it’ll also display random items, so it’s essential to ensure the correct item is selected.
  • Some networking equipment can have expansion modules. When value checking, make sure the item that is selected has the same modules. Some of the modules are worth a few dollars while others are worth over a hundred.
  • Do not use a listing that includes more than a 30-day warranty. Some seller will include a one-year or more warranty with their item; try to avoid these items. However, if that is the only item available, use it. The QCer will evaluate if the item should be kept.
  • If there is only one listing available for use, notate the difference.

Brand Specific

  • For Cisco Meraki, use the lowest “pre-owned” sold listing price. Under $100 will be scrapped. (These items could be locked to the previous owner; therefore, it’s only worth testing high-value items.)
  • For Dell Sonicwall, use the lowest “pre-owned” sold listing price. Under $100 will be scrapped. (A few years back, Dell bought Sonicwall, and the items have been re-branded as Dell Sonicwall. These items are worth value checking. However, these items can be locked to the previous owner’s account; therefore, the equipment must be sold for over $100, otherwise it will be scrapped.)

  • Sonicwall will be scrapped. (They are too old and have low values.)

  • All WatchGuard will be scrapped. There are no exceptions

  • For Ubiquiti or Unifi products, we need to add them to our account and test to ensure they are working; therefore, there are minimal value limits
    • For wireless access points or plastic-cased items, sold under $60 will be scrapped.
    • Rackmount items like network switches, sold under $100, will be scrapped.

  • F5 Networks has hard drives with system software. Most of the value of the F5 device is in its software. We will not be selling this item with its software, so you’ll need to value check against items that are listed as not including a hard drive. The hard drive will stay in the unit for testing, but will be removed afterwards. F5 Networks equipment without hard drives must be selling for over $100; otherwise, it will be scrapped. If there is no listing without a hard drive, then use the lowest sold listing for the value check.

  • For Barracuda, items are similar to F5 Networks in that most of their value is in the software that we will not be including. The value check limit for Barracuda items is $60. Open the item and remove its hard drive. If it has a standard motherboard, use “Custom PC or All Other PC to Be Tested” for the value check and put it away.

  • For Fortinet, scrap it if it is not new.

  • For Adtran, use the part number when performing a value check.

Item type Specific

  • PBX or Phone system
    • value check for parts.
    • remove all cards and modules, and value-check them if the whole system is scrap.

Note

  • For a part or module. Leave a note about which unit the module/part was removed from, or if it came in loose.
  • Leave a note for any difference between the listing and the item on hand.
  • Leave a note if the price is converted.

Extra

  • Some items with VGA ports can be post-tested. The eBay team will be testing these items. Leave a note if the hard drive was or wasn’t removed.
  • The KVM switch does not need a POST test.

How to Bag & Tag
