Policy brief & purpose

Our company holiday policy outlines the days our company acknowledges as holidays and provides relevant guidelines for holiday pay.

Eligibility

Non-exempt hourly employees who are classified as regular, full-time employees and who have worked for Beyond Surplus for at least one year and in Good Standing are eligible to receive holiday pay.

Scope

This policy applies to “Regular Full Time” employees who meet eligibility requirements for all available benefits after one year of service.

Paid Holidays

Beyond Surplus recognizes six (6) paid holidays each year:

New Year’s Day: January 1
Memorial Day: last Monday in May
Independence Day: July 4
Labor Day: first Monday in September
Thanksgiving Day: the fourth Thursday in November
Christmas Day: December 25

Should a holiday fall on the weekend, the holiday will be observed on the workday closest to the holiday.

Procedures

The following conditions apply to the Beyond Surplus holiday pay policy:

  • Holiday pay will not be considered as time worked for overtime calculations.
  • Holiday pay is computed at the employee’s current base rate of pay.
  • Holidays will not be paid to employees on any unpaid leave.
  • Holidays falling within an approved scheduled time off will be paid.
  • An employee must be present at work the day prior to the holiday and the first scheduled day after the holiday to receive holiday pay.
  • An employee must be in Good Standing.

Time off without pay may be granted to employees who desire to observe a religious holiday that Beyond Surplus does not recognize, provided the company has no undue hardship.

* If You Call Out A Day Before Or Day After A Holiday, your holiday pay will be forfeited.

* LOA Is an Unpaid leave that allows an employee to be off work for an extended period of time. A leave of absence (LOA) is unpaid leave that allows an employee to be off work for an extended period of time and return to his/her former position when the leave ends. e.g, Taking time off (LOA) to recover from covid means you won’t be paid for any holidays while you are away from work.
