Sometimes all we have for an item is the brand, model or part number and we are not sure exactly what the item is, or what item type category to select, so we need to find out.

If you don’t know what you have, conduct a quick search on eBay, you should have the window open from previous value checking, search for the brand and part number(s) or model number(s) of what you are trying to inventory. Try 2 or 3 searches as necessary, of any numbers that look like potential model and part numbers, but do not go past the first page of search results. If you cannot find this in a minute or two, select the unknown item brand or model category. Basically, you are looking for alternative part numbers or names of the same item to help identify what you have.

If there are multiple model or part numbers, usually only one represents the item as a whole. We need to find out which model/part number is the part number to list it by. If an item has a model number and a part number search using both to determine which one is used to effectively sell the item. The same applies if an item has a manufacturer part number and an oem part number search using both to determine which one is used to effectively sell the item.

Some items will have to be opened to get the part number from inside only if there are no manufacturer labels on the outside, check with your supervisor if you run into this situation.
