It is important to follow the steps correctly when replacing the knife’s blade. This will help prevent injury and allow the knife to be use in the most effective manner. Installing the blade incorrectly could result in someone or yourself being cut or at the very least; added strain on a person because of how the knife is being held.
Below is a guide to help with the replacement of a worn out blade.
Comfort-Grip Auto-retractable Safety Knife:
These Knives have a spring loaded trigger that will retractable the blade once the trigger is released. Modifying the knife to prevent the blade from retracting could lead to someone being cut. Never modify or use any equipment that is in a manner that differs from how the manufacture intended it to be used.
To replace the blade in the Auto-retractable Knife:
- Push down on the red plastic and slide it forward.
- Push forward on the trigger to extend the blade.
- Carefully left up on the used blade and place it into the Used Blade Bin.
- Carefully place a new blade into the holder. Lining up the notch in the blade with the notch in the holder.
- Slowly release the trigger and replace the plastic cover.
Comfort-Grip Knife:
These knives will lock in the position that they are set and will not retract once the trigger is released. There is no spring to pull the blade back in. This is not a safety knife, use with caution.
To replace the blade in the Comfort-Grip Knife:
- Push forward on the trigger so that the blade is fully extended.
- Push down on the red plastic button, this will release the blade.
- Carefully grab the blade and place it into the Used Blade Bin.
- To install a new blade, push down on the red plastic button and carefully slide the blade into place.
- Release the button and carefully and genteelly pull the blade forward. If you hear a “click” sound and the blade stops moving, then the process is complete.
- Pull back on the trigger so the blade is in its locked position.
Heavy-Duty Safety Snap-Blade Knife
These knives are most often used by the packing team to cut hard foam and boxes. The blade can be extended serval inches to aide in cutting the foam. This knife also has a spring loaded trigger to extend a small amount of the blade. Once the trigger is released, the blade will retract. If the tip of the blade is dull, it maybe broken off with the help of a pliers. Do so with caution as even a dull blade can still cut.
Also use caution when replacing the entire blade. Unlike the other knives on this list, this knife’s blade is almost 6″ long. Be extremally careful not to cut yourself when replacing the blade in this knife.
To replace the blade in the Heavy-Duty Safety Snap-Blade Knife:
- Pop off the back plastic cover
- Slide the trigger back, keep pulling until the entire blade is free
- Unhook the blade from the trigger
- Carefully place the blade into the Used Blade Bin
- Carefully slide the replacement blade out of its storage bin. The blades are thin and stick together, caution must be used to prevent cutting oneself.
- Hook the blade on to the trigger
- Slide the blade and trigger back into the knife frame. The contour of the knife and blade should match. If they don’t the blade was installed incorrectly.
- Pop the back plastic cover into place.
